- Apr 20, 12On Sunday, April 15, I had my art show at Revolver Consignment! I painted 8 different animals dressed in costume... a pig wearing a tiera, a lizard in a top hat, etc. Another crafty gal, Marilyn Tilley, set up her handmade accessories and we had local food and drink available. Pavlov's Dogs came out with their hot dog stand, which was a big hit. We had a local brew master donate a keg of awesomely delicious beer. We had Best Friend Pet Adoption group there taking donations, too. It was a good time.I was hoping for more people, but with the weather being so beautiful outside that day and it being two days before taxes being due, I understand that peoples' minds were elsewhere. :) And that's okay. They are still up on display, so take a peek today! I am thinking these would make cool prints to put my Etsy shop, too.
- Mar 21, 12These pet portraits are now displayed at the West Cary Animal Hospital. I've been taking my dog, Mya, to this hospital since she was just a puppy. And just in case you were wondering...as I am sure you were...she will be turning 5 tomorrow!!! Great Vet and staff there. Grateful that they gave me the opportunity to display some artwork!

Now on my Etsy shop: Plott Hound puppy and Three little Pigs painting print. This original painting won Honorable Mention at the "Southern Menagerie" exhibit at the Raleigh Convention Center. The original painting was sold, but the prints are available for purchase. They are printed on high quality photo matte paper and framed in a 8x8 size frame. Makes a great gift!Woof Gang Bakery at North Hills in Raleigh has been reeling in the customers, which is awesome!! Here are a few custom pet portraits I painted for those customers. It is March 1 already?! Holy Whackers batman!! Here are a couple of the art shows and markets that are around the corner.Saturday, March 17 is the Designer's Downtown Market. It will be held from 9am-3 in the Ornamentea location, on West Street. Free admission.Sunday, April 15 is a personal art show at Revolver Consignment in downtown Raleigh on Glenwood South. It will be from 1-5 and there will be small food selections and drinks! Will be hosting it with my friend, Marilyn Tilley, who is bringing her handmade wares! Free admission.Saturday, April 21 is the Art for Animals Event at the Cloer Family Vineyards. It is sponsored by the Apex Arts Council and will last from 10am-6pm. Admission is free, but donations are gladly acccepted. All proceeds will be donated to animal rescue groups.Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29 is the Durham Art Walk. Free admission and LOTS of great artists will be at this huge event. Find out more about Durham.So, Amy's Creative Corner will be pretty busy this Spring and very happy about it. - Feb 26, 12I've been working on creating custom greeting cards and stationery in Amy's Creative Corner. A set of custom stationery was ordered as a gift for a bridal shower. I recently set up my vendor tent at the State Fairgrounds Flea Market. With Valentine's Day around the corner, I had a raffle for people to enter where they could win 50% off of any item from my Etsy shop. SUPER excited for the opening of a new boutique opening up this weekend, Woof Gang Bakery. Tonight is their soft opening and then this Saturday, January 14 is the big day. I will be one of three artists displaying their work on the lovely walls of this brand new store. I was delighted to be able to paint the owner's pets, the little yorkies! They will be taking custom orders for me (hopefully lots of them!)I am so grateful to be a part of this awesome store. It's nestled in the North Hills shopping area, near the Panera Bread and Starbucks. So, with this amazing location, I am hoping to be very busy with custom orders! :) - Jan 02, 12This Holiday season was a happily busy time for me in Amy's Creative Corner. A few customers emailed me their picture of their loved ones smiling with their custom pet portrait on Christmas Day. It made me SO HAPPY to see those people excited and emotionally touched by a thoughtful gift. And maybe even more than that, it made me happy to know that my customers felt confidence and joy in giving a gift that was unique and made with love. I thank my wonderful customers for making 2011 a great year. Looking at 2012, I wish to maintain my strength and love of painting and making people happy, and push it to the next level. I am so excited for 2012!

- Nov 27, 11Here a few custom pet portraits I have been working on lately. The one with the yellow background is Scout, who bless her sweet soul, is in Doggy Heaven. The portrait will be given to the customer's family for Christmas.The little pug, Fernando, was the winner of the Halloween Pet Costume Contest Amy's Creative Corner held. - Nov 16, 11I am experimenting with trying new ways of getting noticed on Etsy.com. Now that my digital photography class from Wake Technical College is complete, I will try to practice practice practice what I have learned and produce high quality photographs of my work. It's all about that little thumbnail that people (hopefully) see in the sea of millions of other artist's work. Practice makes perfect!This Boxer portrait was painted for a customer from the Lemon Tree in downtown Wake Forest. They have graciously displayed a few samples of my work for me and are taking custom orders for me. This was my first one! :)

The orders are coming in...people are catching on to the idea of getting the full package from Amy's Creative Corner. After I paint the portrait on a 6x6 size canvas, I use a printed image of the painted portrait for the pendant necklace with a resin coating and then I sew that image onto stationery cards to create a unique set of cards and envelopes. I am hoping that more people catch on to this pretty cool gift set. I think it's time I paint a more recent portrait of my dog, Mya, and create some stationery for myself! I just can't believe it is almost Thanksgiving. I don't know about you, but I don't think we should hear Christmas music on the radio until AFTER Thanksgiving. Anyhow, regardless of my holiday music beliefs, I had the chance to take photos of my beautiful sister modeling my handmade scarves. Thank you Becky for a being a wonderful sport!These scarves are available for purchase on my Etsy shop, www.amyscreativecorner.etsy.com. A cozy, unique and fashionable scarf would make a wonderful gift! - Nov 10, 11Very exciting news! A few weeks ago, I completed a painting to submit to the Junior League of Raleigh's Shopping Spree exhibit that had a theme of "Southern Menagerie." A couple weeks later, I discovered that my painting was selected and would be displayed and viewed by thousands of people at the Raleigh Convention Center! WOW!!!And then, I discovered that someone purchased my painting! So that's awesome...someone in this world has a painting of a puppy plot hound sitting in the back of an old Ford pick up truck with three little pigs sitting next to him. I am so glad I had this opportunity to gain exposure for my work and my name. In fact, I am meeting someone who saw my painting at the show to discuss a custom portrait, just like the Southern Menagerie one, but I'll be using her own pup! Cool beans!

So I took a day off from pet portraits to work on my costume for the Day of the Dead 5k hosted by Dos Taquitos Centro and the Boys and Girls Club of Raleigh. I had such a good time! My calves are pretty sore today, but the creating of the costume and the application of my face paint made it well worth it. Now back to pet portraits... :) - Oct 04, 11Amy's Creative Corner has had its first mention on a TV show in North Carolina! This is very very very exciting for me. My Carolina Today mentioned my Halloween pet costume contest on their show on Monday. 'Tis the season for bridal showers! I was asked if I created custom skirt aprons by a friend who was looking for a gift for her cousin's bridal shower. After I told her that I had never made one before and wouldn't mind showing her the outcome before she purchases it, she said "no way! I trust you!" So, I attempted to create a skirt apron similar to the one she liked a lot on www.anthropologie.com. I went to work using the grey and cream color scheme she asked for. Hope the cousin enjoys wearing her custom apron, my friend certainly gave me the kindest feedback!And the teal colored one is for a coworker's bridal shower this evening. She loves to cook, so why not keep the spirit of the apron going! I also made her matching stationery, a set of 5. Hope she likes her gifts! - Sep 25, 11So, I am happy to say that things feel like they are picking up for me somewhat. Or maybe I am trying new ways to advertise my work. I live and breathe my business...I think about it all the time. Falling asleep at night is sometimes difficult because I lay there and wonder...how can I get more exposure for my artwork or what can I do better? Oy!It seems like Google has been a good way for people to find my work. I will continue to try out experiments and research what is best for Amy's Creative Corner. I have been busy with a few orders though, which is very exciting. Custom pet portraits and custom necklaces using that image from the portrait (which is what I'd love for people to want to purchase: a portrait, necklace and then stationery, all using the image I paint.)We're getting there folks, just hang tight and spread the word! :)

It was my honor to be my friend, Shannon's "best lady girl" for her wedding. She was a beautiful bride and I got to take her bridal portraits before the big day. I had a lovely trip across the country, well to Asheville, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and through states I don't really want to go back to...shall we say...KANSAS. Oy! But I managed to capture some pretty cool shots (many from the window of my car) and got to see my older sister and her wonderful family in Colorado.I spent quality time (HOURS in ONE car! haha) with my boyfriend Michael, camped at Ojo Caliente and enjoyed their natural hot springs, ate delicious foods, hiked a desert trail in "bear country" and went to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe. I can't say what the best part of the trip was. Seeing the National Nuclear Museum in Albuquerque was awesome and so was the cuban sandwich in Austin. Yup, I'd say overall, I had a pretty nice trip!And what was really neat is that while I was gone, I had a few different Etsy transactions go through. So, today I started, completed and shipped the custom necklace orders. It felt really nice to have a business to come home to where I had orders waiting for me to fulfill. - Aug 12, 11
I did it folks! I saved my money and purchased the sweet little Nikon D7000. Of course my first shot was my dog, Mya, but I plan to use it for wedding photography with Yin and Yang Photography, my artwork, things around town, travel, whatever catches my eye!Speaking of travel...my boyfriend Michael and I are headed WEST after a wedding in the mountains this weekend. We plan to visit Austin, TX, Santa Fe, NM, Colorado Springs, CO and stop in places our hearts tell us to stop (or my camera for that matter!). Departure: 8.12.11 and Home Arrival: 8:27:11. I'll definitely be posting some of my favorite photos that I get on this journey.In these two photos, Mya sits next to her portrait and I get a shot with my camera.
